Let Me Go is a film about mothers and daughters, it is about ghosts from the past and the impact they leave on the present. Developed from Helga Schneider's true life story, Let Me Go explores the effect on Helga's life of being abandoned by her mother, Traudi in 1941 - when she was just four years old. The film is set in the year 2000 - following not only Helga and Traudi's journeys but the next two generations and how Beth, Helga's daughter and Emily her granddaughter are confronted with the long-term effects of Traudi's leaving. When Helga receives a letter telling her that Traudi is close to death, it is Emily with whom Helga shares the truth. Emily 册unteers to accompany her to Vienna to meet the great-grandmother she thought was dead, and experience the unraveling of the darkest of family secrets.

Theo Abrams is an ex-Cape Town fireman suffering from severe Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. 如今，一家人每天都聚在一起吃晚饭的家庭已经不多了，而香取家正是其中之一。一家之主香取卓在不动产公司上班。妻子幸子是专业主妇，爱好韩国布艺。大女儿诗织大学四年级，已经找好了工作。二女儿歌织喜欢音乐，和朋友们一起组了个乐队。某天下班回家的路上，卓在车站广场上结识了青年充，便邀他一起回家吃晚饭。充在阪神大地震中失去了家人，为了梦想来到东京打拼，每天只吃便利店的便当充饥。诗织十分同情他的境遇。不久后，充带着豆腐来到香取家，大家围着热腾腾的火锅吃晚饭，看到诗织和充亲密的样子卓非常不高兴。歌织的乐队即将在Live House“MARK2”登台演出，以后没法按时回家了。家族晚餐的惯例亮起了黄色信号。“MARK2”的老板榊认出歌织用的吉它是当年卓的东西。原来卓和榊年轻时是音乐拍档，曾在Live House“Mark1”中演出，大学同学幸子在店里当女招待，成了卓的恋人。歌织第一次知道，原来父母还有这样的故事。两个女儿都不回家吃饭，卓变得烦躁不安。充和歌织决定结婚，卓却顽固地反对。榊邀请香取夫妇来看歌织的首次演出。听着女儿的歌声，两个人回忆起了青春岁月。最终一家人和解了。充和诗织在“Mark2”举行了婚礼。卓唱起吉田拓郎的名曲《结婚吧》，留下了激动的热泪……
