一个自认为才华横溢的中国留学生Alan,在号称世界上最适宜⼈类居住的城市墨尔本，过着养尊处优的生活。为了追求他的“艺术梦想”，他时长挂科，从不去⼯作，26岁依然依靠着⽗母的养育。为了有⼀天能将它写了8年的话剧剧本搬上舞台，他和他的富⼆代好兄弟Jacob创办了⼀个名为“凹凸”的中⽂剧社。与此同时，墨尔本一个互联⽹公司Inertopia的CEO明达(与Alan同⼀个演员)研制出了一款创世纪的软件Seer，只要客户能够真实地体会情感，他就可以通过分析用户的过去，来预测他们的未来。但问题是，想要软件读取出用户的过往绝⾮易事，所以Seer也一直停留在测试阶段。在⼀次Inertopia的概念发布会上，前中国戏剧导演，后又移民澳洲的Valerie用软件测试出20多年没有联系的⼥⼉被家暴，她一⽓之下愤然离去。明达对Valerie产生了了极大的兴趣，他努力劝说Valerie帮他测试软件，一边寻找Valerie的女⼉，想通过她的⽣活现状来验证软件的准确性。此时，明达对头公司Gooh的CEOFrank也在密谋利利⽤Valerie的关系暗中窃取Inertopia的机密。明达的故事实际就是Alan创作的那个剧本，本想在墨尔本有⼀番作为的Alan因为⽗母破产，遭遇⼈生重⼤变故。开办剧社，和对相恋8年外籍⼥友Sophie求婚，都被搁浅。渐渐地，Alan和朋友，爱⼈，家人渐⾏渐远。最终⼥友离去，经济负担的重压，永远都写不不出的结尾让Alan不断地怀疑⾃己。现实的⽣活绞杀着Alan创作的梦想，让他不断地修改着明达和与他交汇的每个⼈的命运和⼈生。到底是现实过于⽆情还是梦想不够强大。作为年轻⼀代的中国留学⽣，在摆脱父辈的温饱问题后似乎⼜面临了⼀个新的⼈生难题，对于梦想，对于⼈生，到底是该追，还是稳。
