故事发生在美国独立战争时。本杰明（梅尔?吉布森 Mel Gibson 饰）是法国裔美国人，他曾参加过法国人与印第安人的战争，身经百战。残酷的战争令他失去了心爱的妻子，他发誓要永远远离战争。 所以当英国殖民者将战争烧到本杰明的家园时，他首先选择的不是奋起反抗，而是躲避。当他看到他的大儿子参加了当地组织的爱国者军队时，也没有跟着挺身而出。 但是，当他的大儿子被敌军俘虏，小儿子挺身去救哥哥而被打死时，本杰明再也按捺不住了。他这时才清楚意识到，只有反抗才能解救家园于水火。

1985-92播出7季，还拍了两部电视电影的ABC老剧《百战天龙MacGyver》，被CBS接手翻拍。MacGyver在原剧中是个不喜用枪的人，但却能用一把瑞士刀等东西解决各种事件。CBS对本剧的关注度很高。新版主演会年轻10年，讲述20多岁的MacGyver被招入一个隐秘的部门，剧中会解释他是如何学到一身如何解決难题的不同技能。定档秋档的《百战天龙MacGyver》预订后重选演员﹑编剧及导演，原班底只留下主角LucasTill及GeorgeEads。在拍摄试映集时把导演从温子仁换成DavidVonAncken，但当预告片放出后恶评如潮，CBS因此清洗了大部份演员﹑编剧与导演。温子仁再次走马上任，负责执导这部CBS有很高期待的新剧。《X战警X-Men》系列中饰演AlexSummers（冲击波/Havok）的LucasTill饰演主角MacGyver。他在美国政府一个绝密部门，运用他过人的天赋﹑非传统的解决方式﹑丰富的科学知识去拯救别人。《犯罪现场调查CSI:CrimeSceneInvestigation》的GeorgeEads角色重新设定为特立独行的前CIA特工JackDalton，跟MacGyver一同在全球出生入死，进行高风险的任务。SandrineHolt将饰演前前线特工PatriciaThornton，现行动部门「对外特勤局（DepartmentofExternalServices）」局长。她不喜欢自己被「领导」一词所框框，并且愿意自己亲身上前线，她才不想让自己的手下把乐趣都抢了。JustinHires饰演有雄心壮志的WiltBozer，MacGyver的室友。TristinMays饰演常规角色RileyDavis，她是个带怨恨﹑不可预测的电脑骇客，脑子有着各种计算机编码的知识；原本她在狱中服刑，因此她更是乐意在MacGyver的队伍中工作，而不是留在监狱……不过她懒得表示谢意。在对外特勤局（DepartmentofExternalServices）支持下，MacGyver肩负起保护世界的责任﹑武装到牙齿的他，得到的工具不止是香口胶及回纹针。
